ARLINGTON, Va. — Surescripts LLC president and chief executive officer Harry Totonis will leave the company next month.

At presstime, a successor had not been named.

Totonis, who joined Surescripts shortly after its merger with RxHub in 2008, is credited with making electronic prescribing a reality and the force behind Surescripts’ establishing the nation’s leading clinical network to enable nationwide health information exchange. He also led the company through its 2012 acquisition of health care solution provider Kryptiq Corp.

“Under Harry’s leadership, Surescripts has realized pharmacy’s e-prescribing vision to enable pharmacy and providers in producing optimal outcomes and reducing health care costs,” Surescripts co-chairman and National Community Pharmacists Association chief executive officer Douglas Hoey says.

“Harry has also built a team and infrastructure to ensure the company’s continued success and growth, as it evolves to meet the changing needs of a dynamic health care environment,” he says.

Under Totonis’ leadership the Surescripts network has continued to grow and now enables the transmission of over 6 billion health data transactions a year.

Surescripts connects more than 500,000 prescribers, 94% of the community pharmacies, the nation’s pharmacy benefits managers, electronic health records and electronic medical records vendors, and hundreds of hospitals with secure electronic transmission of e-prescriptions, immunization records, continuity of care documents and referrals.

“I joined Surescripts with very clear objectives for the business, and I am proud that we have not just achieved them, but exceeded them,” Totonis says. “The progress we made is a clear indication of the strength and opportunity of our network and an affirmation of the company’s strategy going forward.”
