CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. — Take Care Health Systems, the retail clinic subsidiary of Walgreen Co., has received the rest of its seasonal flu vaccine supply for the year and is now providing immunizations at its locations nationwide.

The limited quantity of vaccine is being offered to patients on a first-come, first-served basis at all Take Care Clinics, which are located at 355 Walgreens drug stores across the country, the company said Thursday.

Seasonal flu shots cost $24.99. Since launching its flu immunization program in September, Take Care clinics have administered more than 380,000 doses of seasonal flu vaccine, according to the company.

"There continues to be widespread attention on the H1N1 virus, but it is not too late for individuals and families to protect themselves from seasonal flu strains by getting a seasonal flu vaccination," Sandra Ryan, chief nurse practitioner officer for Take Care Health Systems, said in a statement. "Take Care Health professionals began offering seasonal flu vaccine in September this year, one month earlier than normal, and patients have responded."

Meanwhile, Take Care Health Systems said it’s working with state and local health departments on the distribution of H1N1 "swine flu" vaccine and H1N1 FluMist nasal spray. All Take Care clinics have been registered as vaccine administration sites, the company reported.

So far, a select number of clinics have received very limited quantities of the H1N1 shots and FluMist, and the vaccinations are being administered to high-risk patients as directed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and government health authorities, Take Care Health Systems said.

Earlier this month, Walgreen Co. began providing H1N1 shots at 18 pharmacies in the Salt Lake City area. The immunizations were being offered for $18 each.

Take Care Health Systems added that besides seasonal flu vaccine, its clinics can administer the PPV (pneumonia) vaccine to adults age 65 and older, a group that the CDC urges to receive the vaccination.
