Thompson promoted by Rite Aid

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Robert Thompson has been promoted to executive vice president of pharmacy at Rite Aid Corp.

Thompson, 56, had been the retailer’s senior vice president of pharmacy operations. A pharmacist and seasoned veteran of the drug store industry, he will oversee pharmacy operations, pharmacy purchasing and managed care.

Thompson’s responsibilities also include clinical services, Rite Aid’s pharmacy benefits management business, pharmacy business development and government affairs.

“Robert has been a terrific asset to Rite Aid over the past five years [Thompson joined the chain in July 2004], making many contributions to our company,” comments president and chief operating officer John Standley. “With this promotion, he is now positioned to bring greater value in this larger role overseeing all aspects of pharmacy.”

Thompson, who began his career at Rite Aid as vice president of pharmacy business development, has also served in such management capacities as senior vice president of operations for the Northeastern division and as manager of Rite Aid’s integration of the Brooks Eckerd Pharmacy operation.

Before joining Rite Aid, he was involved in operations and new business development for several health care–related businesses, including one of the nation’s largest dental practice management companies and an international medical equipment manufacturer.

In addition, Rite Aid announced the elevation of Bill Wolfe to senior vice president of managed care and government affairs. The 46-year-old Wolfe had been group vice president of managed care and government affairs.
