WASHINGTON — Thrifty White Pharmacy has been designated as an accredited specialty pharmacy by the Center for Pharmacy Practice Accreditation (CPPA), a nonprofit pharmacy standards body.

The CPPA certification marks the second specialty pharmacy accreditation for Thrifty White within the past month. In late September, the pharmacy chain said it earned specialty pharmacy accreditation from URAC, a Washington-based health care standards organization.

“We are excited to receive specialty pharmacy accreditation from CPPA,” Thrifty White president and chief executive officer Robert Narveson said in a statement. “Thrifty White has pioneered multiple industry changing solutions, such as RxMedSync and HealthyPackRx. This accreditation is an example of how we are 100% committed to delivering the best patient care and exceeding the expectations of our stakeholders.”

CPPA announced Thursday that it accredited Thrifty White Specialty Pharmacy Inc., an employee-owned pharmacy in Fargo, N.D. The Washington-based organization said Thrifty White specialty patients receive full pharmacy support services and that the company has expanded its pharmacy capabilities to serve specialty drug patients across all 50 states. Thrifty White also offers specialty medication pickup at 90 retail locations.

Thrifty White noted that it has delivered proportion of days covered (PDC) adherence scores of over 93% for specialty drug patients over the past 12 months.

“Adding our second accreditation reinforces our commitment to specialty pharmacy and taking care of our patients, and will enable us to continue to thrive in the changing pharmacy market,” stated Jeremy Faulks, director of specialty pharmacy at Thrifty White.

CPPA said its specialty accreditation recognizes exemplary pharmacy practices in the specialty drug area, fostering medication safety and effectiveness, ensuring comprehensive patient care services and ongoing quality improvement to improve patient health outcomes.

“Ensuring that specialty pharmacies provide services that help patients achieve desired, cost-effective outcomes is a key component of CPPA’s specialty pharmacy accreditation,” commented CPPA executive director Lynnae Mahaney. “CPPA’s accreditation of Thrifty White Specialty Pharmacy provides an important recognition that its pharmacy services support these goals.”

Overall, Thrifty White operates 92 stores in Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The company also has 77 affiliated pharmacy locations nationwide.

Launched in 2012, CPPA was formed through a partnership of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) and American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
