The maker of the Topricin line of topical pain relievers, Topical BioMedics said Thursday that it was one of the only companies in the biomedical category nominated this year and was one of only nine firms chosen from every region in the state. The company received the honor as part of Mid-Hudson SBDC in an event this week at the Fort William Henry Hotel & Conference Center in Lake George, N.Y.

In selecting award winners, the SBDC asks advisers and directors at New York regional centers and special project coordinators to nominate business owners they think deserve recognition as an outstanding small-business or entrepreneur. A SBDC committee at its central office then reviews the nominations and choose the award winners.

The SBDC has been giving out Entrepreneur of the Year awards since 1992 to recognize New York small businesses that have succeeded with its assistance.

“Our SBDC business advisor, Al Griggs, has been a major part of our business growth since the beginning,” Topical BioMedics founders Lou and Aurora Paradise said in a statement. “We appreciate and are grateful to the entire staff at the SBDC and look forward to working with them in the future.”

In celebration of the achievements of the award winners, Mr. and Mrs. Paradise donated 200 bags with tubes of Topricin Pain Relief and Healing Cream to their fellow entrepreneurs and SBDC conference attendees.

Topical BioMedics is now in its 22nd year of operations, and the company said sales are up 30% over 2015. Its flagship product, Topricin Pain Relief and Healing Cream, was introduced in 1994. The Topricin line has since expanded to include Topricin Foot Therapy Cream, Topricin for Children and MyPainAway Powered by Topricin. The latter brand includes the products MyPainAway Fibro Cream, MyPainAway After-Burn Cream and, launching in June, MyPainAway Sports Cream.

Topricin is sold in chain and independent pharmacies, food stores and co-op stores nationwide, including such retailers as CVS Pharmacy, Walgreens, Fred Meyer, Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy, Whole Foods Markets, Wegmans Food Markets, Sprouts and The Vitamin Shoppe.
