DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreen Co. has made several management changes as the company moves forward with its partnership with Alliance Boots, including appointing Timothy McLevish as chief financial officer and naming Richard Ashworth as president of retail and pharmacy operations.

Mark Wagner, currently president of community management and store operations, gets a new role as president of business operations. He will be responsible for creating a customer-focused organization that supports stores, eliminates waste and simplifies work.

Brad Fluegel, currently senior vice president and chief strategy officer, becomes a senior vice president and chief strategy and business development officer. He will expand his responsibilities to include developing and implementing health care clinic, clinical office and health care innovation strategies.

Ashworth returns to the chain from Alliance Boots, which he joined last year as director of health care for Health & Beauty U.K. and Ireland. Before that he had been Walgreens corporate operations vice president for the western United States. In his new role he will assume responsibility for Walgreens’ field organization to implement a single customer plan.

McLevish, who was also named an executive vice president, succeeds Wade Miquelon, who also served as president of international for Walgreens. Miquelon is working as an adviser to Walgreens during the transition as well as pursuing activities outside the company.

McLevish joins Walgreens from Kraft Foods Group Inc., where he most recently served as executive vice president and CFO. Before Kraft, he served in CFO roles for Ingersoll-Rand Corp. and Mead Corp. He also served in a leadership role at Zellerbach Paper Co., where he was vice president and general manager.

“We are pleased to welcome Tim to lead our financial operations into the next chapter of Walgreens’ ongoing transformation,” president and chief executive officer Greg Wasson said this month. “With Tim on our senior management team, Walgreens and Alliance Boots will benefit not only from his deep and rich experience in the consumer products market, but also from his experience in bringing together companies to ensure efficient, effective and profitable growth and value creation.”

McLevish described his opportunity to join the company as “a privilege,” especially as Walgreens expands to become a global enterprise.

“I look forward to helping Greg and the team achieve the company’s important mission and carry out their remarkable vision to expand health and well-being across America and around the world for the benefit of customers, patients, health care partners and shareholders,” he said.
