NEW YORK — Two pharmacy technology companies have struck licensing deals for Walgreen Co.’s prescription alignment patents.

VoicePort LLC and Ateb Inc. announced agreements covering Walgreens’ portfolio of prescription alignment patents.

"VoicePort’s Synchro-Script technology works best for everyone when it is backed with robust intellectual property and patents," said Christopher Mann, the Rochester, N.Y.-based company’s chief executive officer. "We are pleased to have agreed upon a solution that allows our customers to purchase Synchro-Script products from VoicePort with confidence. In addition, VoicePort is pursuing a number of patent applications for other inventions involving our Synchro-Script technology."

Medication synchronization has been proven to improve patient adherence through a multiple-tier touch point. "Allowing pharmacy patients the opportunity to pick up multiple prescription medications once a month has shown to significantly improve a patient’s proportion of days covered on their medications," said VoicePort vice president of business development Alphonse Sasso. "When consumers stay adherent to their maintenance medications, it translates to improved patient health outcomes while also increasing pharmacy efficiencies, a true win/win solution."

Raleigh, N.C.-based Ateb said the licensing has ensured its customers’ continued use of the company’s Time My Meds platform. Time My Meds helps patients improve their overall health and gives pharmacists the opportunity to administer additional services, such as immunizations, comprehensive medication reviews and wellness programs. Ateb’s adherence solutions help boost medication compliance, drive pharmacy sales and increase patient loyalty, the company said.

"The time to focus on the way pharmacy impacts how health care is delivered is now, and Ateb believes pharmacy is the best solution for affordable, effective health care," the company commented. "As trusted, accessible health care experts, pharmacists are perfectly positioned to advise patients on their medication therapy and guide patients to better health care outcomes."

Ateb said more than 250,000 patients are already being managed through Time My Meds and pharmacies using the platform are lifting medication adherence rates and bolstering patient health.
