Walgreens renews URAC specialty Rx accreditation

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy LLC has renewed its full specialty pharmacy accreditation from URAC.

Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy_URAC sealWalgreens said Monday that the designation validates the quality of care it provides to patients with complex conditions through its specialty pharmacy services. URAC is a Washington, D.C.-based health care accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the health care industry.

URAC reviewed and certified Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy’s centralized services based on clinical credentials, operating processes and patient management results, among other core standards, according to Walgreens.

“At Walgreens, everything begins with quality of care, and having the external validation through URAC is an extraordinary achievement that underscores our commitment to helping patients lead healthier lives,” Mike Ellis, corporate vice president of specialty pharmacy at Walgreens, said in a statement.

Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy delivers patient care for such diseases and conditions as cancer, cystic fibrosis, HIV, hepatitis C, infertility and transplant. Its patient support network includes retail pharmacies, condition-specific specialized pharmacies, health system pharmacies and central patient support services.
