Walmart to hold 3 Black Friday events

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Walmart announced this week that its plans for Black Friday involve three distinct shopping events in November. What the retailer is calling “Black Friday Deals for Days” events are scheduled to start on November 4th, November 11th and November 25th, with pandemic-related precautions at its stores.

To encourage digital shopping, Walmart’s website will offer the discounted prices a few days before they’re available in the stores. The company will also discourage crowds by limiting the number of customers inside at any given time. Shoppers will line up single-file before they enter. Doors will open at 5 a.m., and customers will be given shopping carts that have been sanitized. And “health ambassadors” will be on hand to remind shoppers of the company’s face-covering mandate.

“We’ve been very thoughtful as we planned this year’s event,” said Scott McCall, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer for Walmart U.S. “By spreading deals out across multiple days and making our hottest deals available online, we expect the Black Friday experience in our stores will be safer and more manageable for both our customers and our associates.”

This year’s first Black Friday event will start online Nov. 4 and in stores Nov. 7 and feature toys, electronics and home products. The second event, with a focus on personal-technology gear such as mobile phone, computers and tablets, begins online Nov. 11 and in stores Nov. 14. The third event will kick off online Nov. 25 and in stores Nov. 27 — the same day as the usual post-Thanksgiving shopping event. Discounted merchandise will range from electronics and toys to apparel and seasonal items.

Black Friday shoppers can have their merchandise delivered for free or pick up their orders at Walmart curbside locations.
