BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart will turn the parking lots of about 160 of its stores into temporary drive-in movie theaters beginning this month, the company said on Wednesday.

Created in partnership with the Tribeca Film Festival, the Walmart Drive-in experience will take place from August 14 through October 21, and will involve 320 showings of hit movies. Starting today at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, families can visit www.TheWalmartDriveIn.com to find dates, store locations and the movies for each stop of the movie tour.

“We recognize the challenges our customers and their families have faced over the last few months and we wanted to create an experience where they could come together safely to create new memories,” Walmart chief customer officer Janey Whiteside said. “The Walmart Drive-in is one small way we’re supporting the communities we serve.”

The Walmart Drive-in is free to Walmart customers and promises families a fun, contact-free experience where they can watch popular films — from blockbusters like Black Panther and Wonder to classics like Back to The Future and The Wizard of Oz — from the safety of their own cars, the company said. Before each feature presentation, audiences will see a short film.

Drew Barrymore will serve as virtual host for all events, and will make a surprise in-person appearance at one location. Peter Berg, Jennifer Garner, LeBron James and Chrissy Metz will also make surprise virtual or in-person appearances at select showings.

Walmart also points out that shoppers can use its pickup or delivery services to stock up on their favorite theater concessions to enjoy during the show.
