DEERFIELD, Ill. – Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) announced on Friday that Mike Maresca has been named the company’s  new chief technology officer. Maresca joined WBA at the end of June from Accenture, where he most recently served as global managing director leading business transformation and IT operations for global business applications and enterprise analytics.

In this role, Maresca will lead and coordinate technology decisions across the enterprise, in areas including cloud strategy, enterprise architecture, application programming interfaces, data and analytics enablement, SAP solutions strategy and software development. He will report to WBA’s global chief information officer, Francesco Tinto.

“Digital transformation is one of WBA’s key strategic priorities, and we are building out our team to support the change taking place throughout our business,” said  Tinto. “Mike has been at the forefront of helping both Accenture and its clients to develop industry-leading technological capabilities, expertise which he is now bringing to WBA to help us achieve our transformation.”

 Maresca  joins at a time when WBA is moving quickly to combine our expansive physical footprint, the knowledge and expertise of our team members and pharmacists, established digital channels and first-party customer data to build truly differentiated customer experiences inside and outside of our stores. By partnering with technology companies, we’ve been able to develop new health care delivery models along with technological and retail innovations to advance and improve the future of health care. Recent initiatives include cloud modernization and a partnership with Microsoft and Adobe, announced June 30, to lay the cornerstone for delivering new customer experiences, connecting WBA’s customer data with Microsoft’s cloud-based data platform and Adobe’s Customer Experience Management solutions.
