New NACDS board members, officers assume roles

PALM BEACH, Fla. — Alex Gourlay, executive vice president of Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. and president of Walgreens, was elected vice chairman of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores at its Annual Meeting.

Mark Panzer, senior VP of pharmacy, health and wellness at Albertsons, was elected treasurer. Gourlay and Panzer will serve a one-year term. Besides Panzer, also newly elected to the executive committee was Carmen Bauza, senior VP and general merchandise manager at Walmart.

New NACDS board members elected to three-year terms were Rick Keyes, president of Meijer Inc.; Chris Lane, senior VP at Wakefern Food Corp./ShopRite; Andre Persaud, executive VP of retail at Shopko Stores Operating Co.; George Riedl, president of health and wellness at Walmart; David Vucurevich, chief operating officer at Genoa; and Panzer.

NACDS president and CEO Steve Anderson welcomed Martin Otto, chief merchant and CFO at H-E-B, as the association’s new chairman.

“Martin has generously and energetically contributed his leadership to NACDS as a member of the board and as an officer, and the entire H-E-B team has a legacy of strong engagement in all facets of NACDS’ work,” said Anderson.
