DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. (WBA) announced that it has named Kimberly Scardino as its new senior vice president, global controller and chief accounting ­officer, effective August 3.

Scardino joined WBA from American Express Co., where she most recently served as senior vice president and business advisory controller. She reports to George Fairweather, executive vice president and global chief financial officer of WBA.

Prior to American Express, Scardino was the company’s senior vice ­president and Americas controller. She served in that position from June 2012 to March 2015.

Previously, Scardino served in roles of increasing responsibility, including vice president, global head of SOX compliance and vice president and chief accounting officer of American Express Credit Corp.

Scardino also served in accounting functions at Credit Suisse Group from 2004 to 2006, and at Lyondell Chemical Co. from 2002 to 2004.

She started her career at Arthur Andersen LLP, where she was an auditor from 1994 to 2002.
