JERUSALEM, Israel — Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. has launched Rajani, an oral contraceptive, to pharmacies in the United States.

Teva said Wednesday that Rajani (drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol and levomefolate calcium tablets, 3 mg/0.02 mg/0.451 mg, and levomefolate calcium tablets, 0.451 mg) is a generic version of Beyaz from Bayer.

Rajani comes in a 28-day blister pack dispenser.

Besides being used for preventing pregnancy, Rajani also is indicated to treat symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) in women choosing to use an oral contraceptive for contraception; treat moderate acne for women at least 14 years old, if the patient desires an oral contraceptive for birth control; and boost folate levels in women who choose to use an oral contraceptive for contraception.

For the 12 months through July, Beyaz totaled sales of approximately $133 million in the United States, according to IMS Health data reported by Teva.
