Rite Aid Foundation program also announces over $2 million in scholarships

The Rite Aid Foundation’s KidCents Mobile Flu Clinics will visit eight cities over three weeks.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — The Rite Aid Foundation has kicked off KidCents Mobile Flu Clinics, a three-week tour to provide free flu shots to children’s charities in communities served by Rite Aid.

Also through its KidCents program, the Rite Aid Foundation has named 428 students as 2017 Folds of Honor scholarship recipients.

Starting off in Pittsburgh, the KidCents Mobile Flu Clinics will visit a total of KidCents charities in eight cities across the country.

At each stop, Rite Aid Ccertified immunizing pharmacists will administer flu vaccinations at no charge to the children served by the KidCents charity, as well as their immediate family and the organization’s staff and volunteers. The Rite Aid Foundation will also provide refreshments, activities and a goody bag to everyone who receives a flu shot.

In addition, each of the charities visited by the KidCents Mobile Flu Clinic will receive a $10,000 KidCents grant from The Rite Aid Foundation.

“Each year, millions of children get sick with the flu, a virus that can be especially tough on children,” Henderson commented. “Since a flu shot is the single best way to prevent the flu, we’re making it easier than ever for kids and their families to fight the flu by bringing the KidCents Mobile Flu Clinic to town.”

Other KidCents charities on the tour include the Joshua Group in Harrisburg, Pa.; The Hearing and Speech Agency in Baltimore; Boys & Girls Clubs of Fresno County in Fresno, Calif.; Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego; the Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program in Detroit; Boys & Girls Clubs of the Western Reserve in Akron, Ohio; and the Children’s Home Society of Washington in Seattle.

Announced this week, the more than $2 million of scholarships are the second round of awards given via KidCents as part of a previously announced three-year, $6 million commitment to Folds of Honor. The nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to children of fallen or disabled service members.

Through Oct. 20, Rite Aid associates will recognize students receiving the scholarships at in-store celebration events. In addition to the scholarship, each student will receive a commemorative certificate and a Rite Aid gift card.

“We’re proud to honor each of this year’s more than 400 scholarship recipients, the largest group of recipients since our partnership with Folds of Honor began in 2015, and we look forward to working with the organization and honoring our military heroes by educating their legacy,” Tracy Henderson, director of The Rite Aid Foundation and charitable giving initiatives, said in a statement.

To date including this year’s scholarships, KidCents has awarded nearly $5.2 million to fund educational scholarships through Folds of Honor.

“The support we’ve received from The Rite Aid Foundation’s KidCents program, Rite Aid associates and customers is second to none and has made a true and meaningful difference in the lives of nearly 600 Folds of Honor students and families across our great country,” stated Major Dan Rooney, founder of Folds of Honor.

The Rite Aid Foundation’s KidCents program enables members of Rite Aid’s wellness+ with Plenti rewards program to round up their in-store or online purchases to the nearest dollar and give their change to charities focused on children’s well-being.
