Leger had previously served as executive vice president of pharmacy and health care for both Loblaw and Shoppers Drug Mart stores. Prior to that, he was senior vice president of Loblaw pharmacy and pharmaceutical partnerships.

Leger held a number of roles of increasing responsibility after joining SDM in 2008 as director of category management. He was vice president of pharmacy procurement, and senior vice president of pharmaceutical partnerships and MediSystem Pharmacy. He was appointed senior vice president of Loblaw pharmacy and pharmaceutical partnerships in 2015.

Before joining the company, Leger worked in the hospital and generic pharmaceutical manufacturing sectors.

Motz has served as president of SDM since January 2015. For the three years before that, he was executive vice president and chief merchandising officer of the drug chain.

Previously, Motz held the post of executive vice president of operations and senior vice president of operations. He started with SDM in 2003 as vice president of operations and rose to senior vice president and then executive vice president of operations.

In other moves, the company named Gary Senecal as chief customer officer, with responsibility for private label, marketing, loyalty, consumer insights and digital. He formerly was president of the company’s market division.

Robert Wiebe was appointed as chief administrative officer, overseeing IT, supply chain, replenishment, space planning and procurement. He previously served as executive vice president of supply chain and business process.

The changes go into effect on January 1, according to the company.

Loblaw is Canada’s largest food and drug retailer. Its retail network encompasses about 2,500 corporate, franchised and associate-owned stores, including more than 1,050 grocery stores — with more than 500 in-store pharmacies — and over 1,300 Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix drug stores.
