Bartell tests digital print media kiosk

SEATTLE — Bartell Drugs is testing a state-of-the-art system that will let its customers print anything from a personal photo book to a classic novel in just minutes.

The full-service digital-to-print media center features On Demand Books’ in-store Espresso Book Machine integrated with Kodak Picture Kiosks. It is being introduced at Bartell’s University Village store as part of a pilot program and marks the first time it has been offered in a drug store.

The new center allows consumers to print paperback books that the suppliers involved say are indistinguishable from books produced by traditional publishers. People can print their own books (including family histories, novels, poetry, family recipes, school projects, etc.) or buy from On Demand Books’ catalog of more than 7 million titles, including classics, hard-to-find titles and special interest books.

Bartell will also offer an expanded assortment of photo books via the Espresso Book Machine beginning in the spring.

The offering “represents the latest in exciting new solutions that are relevant to our market,” said Bartell category manager Howie Cohen.
