John Fiacco has been appointed vice president of Medicine Shoppe and Medicap Pharmacies and will take over leadership of both drug store franchises from Terry Burnside, who has stepped down, according to Cardinal Health. A Cardinal spokeswoman said in a statement that Fiacco, who has held various leadership roles at Medicine Shoppe International and Cardinal since 2000, will take the reins in the new position on Jan. 1.

Fiacco will report to Steve Lawrence, senior vice president of independent sales at Cardinal, who is responsible for the overall leadership of Cardinal teams that serve all independent retail pharmacies, including Medicine Shoppe and Medicap, the spokeswoman stated.

Most recently, Fiacco served as vice president of field services at Medicine Shoppe, a post he has held since late 2005. Before joining Cardinal, he spent 23 years at CVS/pharmacy.

Burnside has been president of Medicine Shoppe since 2004 and has served as senior vice president and general manager of Medicine Shoppe and Leader brands since August 2009.

The spokeswoman said Burnside had recently announced his intent to step down from the senior vice president and general manager post. He joined Cardinal in 2004 as vice president of marketing for Medicine Shoppe and shortly thereafter assumed leadership of the business.

Cardinal currently serves 658 Medicine Shoppe and Medicap pharmacies in the United States.
