The sales and marketing services firm said Wednesday that Mac Naughton brings substantial retail merchandising experience to the Crossmark board.

Most recently, Mac Naughton served as executive vice president and chief merchandising officer for Walmart U.S., where he oversaw all merchandise categories across more than 3,700 stores in Walmart’s domestic business. Under his leadership at Walmart U.S., where he served until November 2014, the company sharpened its shopper-centric focus via initiatives that improved on-shelf availability of products and a more collaborative joint business planning process with suppliers, according to Crossmark.

Mac Naughton joined Walmart in the fall of 2009 as chief merchandising officer for Walmart Canada and in September 2010 was named executive vice president of merchandising for Walmart U.S., in which he was responsible for consumables, health and wellness and Walmart.com. He was appointed chief merchandising officer for Walmart U.S. in January 2011.

“I have always respected the Crossmark organization. The people at all levels have consistently demonstrated leadership, collaboration and excellence in driving our industry forward,” Mac Naughton said in a statement. “I’m excited to work with the team in helping the company increase shareholder value by driving continued growth for its clients and customers.”

Before going to Walmart, Mac Naughton served as executive vice president of marketing and merchandising at Supervalu Inc. and held executive leadership positions at Albertsons, H-E-B and Kraft Foods. Crossmark noted that at Kraft, Mac Naughton demonstrated leadership in key areas such as category sales management and planning, sales strategy, brand and product development, trade planning, and strategic food marketing and business planning.

“We’re privileged to have Duncan join the Crossmark board, bringing extraordinary retail industry experience and leadership from both a manufacturer and retailer perspective,” Crossmark chief executive officer Steve Schuckenbrock stated. “His insight and expertise will be highly valued as our company continues to drive innovation and build unique capabilities centered around consumer purchase behavior, enabling us to deliver smarter solutions for our clients and customers to grow their businesses faster.”

Serving consumer product retailers and suppliers, Crossmark provides a wide range of sales and marketing services, including headquarter sales, retail merchandising, retailer solutions, in-store events, experiential marketing, shopper marketing, consumer engagement, in-store data collection and field intelligence, and business insights.
