CVS campaign promotes Rx care

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark Corp. has created CARE 1on1 to remind consumers about the importance of pharmacist consultations and the critical role that pharmacists play in managing medications for chronic illnesses — especially when patients are starting a new medicine.

The company is stressing that it offers patients one-on-one time with a pharmacist in order to discuss savings, safety and side effects when a prescription is transferred or filled for the first time.

“Patients with chronic health issues like asthma or diseases like diabetes often take more than one medication — each with its own set of directions and possible side effects,” says Papatya Tankut, vice president of pharmacy professional services. “Our pharmacists are here to help patients get the most out of their medications once they leave the doctor’s office.

“Taking the time to speak to a pharmacist about prescriptions can make a difference in the overall improvement of a person’s health, particularly for someone starting a new prescription,” she adds.

When patients spend dedicated time with a CVS pharmacist through CARE 1on1, they receive a personal review of their new ongoing medicine filled at a CVS/pharmacy and discuss ways to manage side effects, save money and maintain a medication routine.

CVS Caremark research shows that in a face-to-face setting, a pharmacist is the most effective health care professional for encouraging patients to take medications as prescribed.
