CVS serves up more mobile functionality

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS/pharmacy has added a series of new tools and enhancements to its mobile application and mobile website for pharmacy patients and shoppers.

The drug chain said Thursday that the latest updates to the CVS Mobile app and site enable mobile users to schedule vaccinations, identify medications, and shop the entire product catalog from their smartphones and tablets.

On the CVS Mobile site, CVS has introduced an immunization scheduler, which enables customers to use their mobile device to plan ahead to get flu shots and other vaccines at CVS/pharmacy. Users just enter their location and the patient’s date of birth, choose the desired immunization and schedule an appointment at a nearby CVS drug store.

Shoppers using the CVS Mobile site also can now view prescriptions available for refill or pickup, access the Health Information Center and manage their ExtraCare savings and rewards. Mobile shoppers, too, can now sign up for the ExtraCare Advantage for Diabetes opt-in program via m.CVS.com to get exclusive savings on diabetes care products as well as healthy living tips and recipes.

Also now on the mobile site, customers can buy personalized eGift Cards for friends and family. The electronic gift cards are delivered to the recipient via e-mail and can be used at CVS stores nationwide.

Meanwhile, the CVS Mobile app — available for free download via the iTunes Store and Google Play, now features a new Pill Identifier tool that lets users check for drug interactions and identify pills by shape, color and imprint. The enhancement accompanies recent additions to the CVS Mobile app such as the Scan Your Refill feature, which enables users to scan prescription bar codes to quickly refill their prescriptions.

In addition, CVS said, the mobile app has been updated with a sleeker design, including an easier-to-navigate home screen, scrollable icons and an intuitive interface. And both the CVS Mobile app and website now enable customers to shop the full CVS.com product catalog. Shoppers can use both the updated site and app to access "Deal of the Day" flash sales featuring a new hot deal daiily online and in-store on popular household staples and gifts.

According to Rob Price, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at CVS/pharmacy, the ongoing enhancements to the CVS Mobile suite — that is, the CVS mobile app and website — reflect the retailer’s efforts to serve the rising number of mobile users as well as cater to customers’ individual needs.

"Through our latest mobile enhancements, CVS/pharmacy is augmenting the personalized shopping and healthcare experience for our customers," Price said in a statement. "Customers accessing CVS.com via mobile devices and tablets has more than doubled since the beginning of the year. We are committed to broadly expanding digital access for customers in order to maximize pharmacy service and shopping convenience."
