NEW YORK — Mike De Fazio, senior director of store concepts at Duane Reade, has left the drug chain to take a position at RadioShack Corp.

De Fazio played an important part in the development of Duane Reade’s innovative store designs, including that of the retailer’s flagship store at 40 Wall Street in Manhattan, and contributed to the evolution of Walgreen Co.’s store formats after the Deerfield, Ill.-based company acquired Duane Reade in 2010.

De Fazio won recognition for helping Duane Reade and Walgreens incorporate cutting-edge retail concepts within existing structures in dense urban areas. The flagship stores served as a testing ground for amenities that, where appropriate, were introduced in other locations.

“Going forward, we’ll tailor every store to fit the needs of the community,” he said last year at the opening of the Duane Reade outlet in a former bank building at 100 Broadway. “It’s not going to be ‘one size fits all’ anymore.”

At RadioShack De Fazio will join Joe Magnacca, who last month resigned as Walgreens executive vice president and president of daily products and solutions to become Radio-Shack’s chief executive officer.
