ST. PAUL, Minn. — New research from Futuro Legwear finds that Americans are feeling the consequences of spending too much time on their feet.

The 3M brand said Wednesday that in a Wakefield Research poll of 1,000 employed U.S. adults who work on their feet for four or more hours daily, 55% reported that they have skipped exercise, socializing with friends (25%), playtime with their kids (64%) and household chores (44%) because of leg and foot discomfort stemming from their workday.

The survey also revealed that 79% of workers who stand for half the day or more say their legs or feet feel tired, achy or swollen after work. Meanwhile, 57% of respondents reported that they could get more done orwork longer hours (46%), better serve clientele (26%) and depend less on coworkers for help (23%) if they had less discomfort in their legs and feet. sixty-four percent said they would give up their morning coffee for relief, and 51% indicated that they would rather sit eight hours in a dentist chair than stand for the same amount of time at work.

“The Futuro brand conducted this research to help gain insight into what consumers who are required to stand for prolonged periods of time are enduring. Based on the results, we know that individuals want more out of their day,” stated Teresa Frey, brand manager for Futuro.
