WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS/pharmacy has debuted a program designed to allow customers to earn free gas throughout the summer by shopping for essentials at its more than 7,200 locations nationwide.

Under the program, which began last month and extends through August 28, members of CVS/pharmacy’s ExtraCare Rewards program can earn one $10 gift card to Exxon/Mobil, Shell, BP Amoco or BP Arco every week by spending $30 on specially marked items found in the weekly CVS/pharmacy circular.

“We are committed to finding ways to provide our customers with exceptional value and convenience,” says Judy Sansone, vice president of merchandising at CVS/pharmacy. “We designed this program in an effort to offer our ExtraCare cardholders an easy way to earn free gas while shopping for essentials each week when they visit CVS/pharmacy.

“Our new gas card offer helps to simplify the lives of our customers by providing them with an additional way to earn money back when they shop using ExtraCare at CVS/pharmacy.”

Customers can find qualifying products on the front and back pages of weekly CVS/pharmacy circulars and through the retailer’s website and Facebook page. Qualifying products are tagged with a “get free gas” icon to make them easy to identify, and the eligible products will rotate each week to give shoppers greater flexibility to fill their carts with the essentials.

Once ExtraCare customers reach the $30 required purchase threshold, a coupon will be printed on their receipt that can be redeemed immediately in-store for a $10 gas card. If customers prefer to wait to redeem their coupon, they have up to 30 days to do so.
