MINNETONKA, Minn. — Health insurance company Medica is offering added health care benefits to plan members through Target Corp. pharmacies and retail clinics.

Under the partnership, Medica members in a group plan or individual and family plan who visit a Target Pharmacy or a Target Clinic for a flu vaccination will get a $5 Target gift card. Flu vaccines are offered at no cost to Medica members as part of their health plan coverage.

Also under the alliance, Target Clinic has been designated as a preferred convenience care network for Medica individual and family plan members in Minnesota who are enrolled in a co-payment plan. Medica said the member co-pay at Target Clinic will be $10 rather than the standard $20 co-pay.

In addition, Medica is providing a benefit to new mothers in recognition of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ recommendation that newborn babies be breastfed. Medica members can receive a Medela Pump in Style breast pump or any pump of lesser or equal value at no cost when they present their Medica ID card and a prescription for a pump at any Target pharmacy in the Medica service area.

"We believe these programs will help motivate our members to get care that follows recommended guidelines and best practices," Mark Werner, chief clinical and innovation officer at Medica, said in a statetment. "Medica is committed to ensuring convenient, quality care at affordable prices. We are delighted to introduce these programs that benefit our members."

Plans call for the flu shot and healthy pregnancy programs to become available this fall, Medica said. The Target Clinic preferred convenience care benefit will be available to Medica individual and family plan members starting Jan. 1.

A nonprofit company, Minneapolis-based Medica serves about 1.5 million members, providing health care coverage in the employer, individual, Medicaid, Medicare and Medicare Part D markets in Minnesota and a rising number of counties in North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
