HealthSpot aims to take telehealth to next level

DUBLIN, Ohio — A walk-in ­kiosk is being billed as a step forward in telehealth.

The HealthSpot Station, introduced at the annual International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this year, is a cutting-edge telehealth system that provides high-quality medical diagnostic technology to patients anytime, anywhere, say executives at its creator, HealthSpot Inc.

“We have built a solution that merges technology with convenience in patient care,” HealthSpot founder and chief executive officer Steve Cashman says. “Our innovation utilizes today’s technology combined with modern medicine to diagnose and treat patients in ways that are affordable, convenient and effective.”

The HealthSpot Station, he explains, is an 8-foot by 5-foot, private, walk-in kiosk that provides patients access to diagnosis and treatment by board-certified doctors, through high-definition videoconferencing and interactive digital medical devices.

A scale built into the kiosk’s floor records the user’s weight, and the consulting physician can remotely access small cabinets inside the kiosk to provide patients with other digital diagnostic devices that can transmit information, audio, video and pictures through a secured-connectivity FDA medical device data system.

After receiving the diagnostic data, the physician can review it with the patient, discuss symptoms, diagnose and treat, and recommend follow-up care as needed. In addition, the doctor can capture, save and even annotate the images with notes.

The HealthSpot Station, which complies with the HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) privacy and security requirements, will automatically create a complete electronic medical record of each visit, supporting continuity of care and collaboration among the health care providers, Cashman says.
