LAS VEGAS — Parkland Health Mart Pharmacy in Desloge, Mo., was recognized as the 2013 Pharmacy of the Year grand prize winner by McKesson Corp.

The pharmaceutical wholesaler said Friday that Parkland Health Mart Pharmacy was honored in a special awards ceremony during the opening general session at the 2013 McKesson ideaShare conference.

McKesson’s Pharmacy of the Year award recognizes independent pharmacies for their contributions to their communities and their leadership in quality patient care, innovative marketing and technology adoption. Parkland Health Mart Pharmacy, owned by Lisa Umfleet, has been a McKesson customer since 2009.

"It is because of pharmacies like Parkland Health Mart Pharmacy and leaders like Lisa Umfleet that community pharmacy continues to succeed and grow," Mark Walchirk, president of McKesson U.S. Pharmaceutical, said in a statement. Parkland Health Mart has become an integral member of its community health care system by establishing strong, personal relationships with patients and offering the latest clinical services for improved health."

Parkland Health Mart Pharmacy offers patients pharmaceutical care services, medication therapy management (MTM), medication synchronization, 340B support, Medicare Part D counseling, diabetes counseling, immunizations, long-term care service and delivery service. Recently remodeled and expanded, Parkland now has an area for private consultation and immunizations.

In addition, the pharmacy has embraced McKesson technology and automation solutions to help build and diversify its patient base, as well as improve the accuracy and speed of their service, noted McKesson, which owns the Health Mart pharmacy franchise. Umfleet opened a second Health Mart pharmacy in Fredericktown, Mo., last winter and has plans to open a third store in Ironton, Mo., later this year, the company said.
