Five CareClinics by Kaiser Permanente to open in 2017

SEATTLE — Bartell Drugs and health care and benefits provider Kaiser Permanente have opened the first of five CareClinic in-store clinics planned for this year.

The Seattle-area drug chain said a CareClinic by Kaiser Permanente location opened Monday at 21615 Pacific Highway South in Des Moines, Wash. The new clinic will provide preventive health care services, immunizations and treatment for minor illness and injuries from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week.

“Bartell Drugs guests have told us they want the ability to get care and treatment as well as everyday necessities in one place,” John Lewis, director of CareClinic operations for Bartell Drugs, said in a statement. “That’s why we’re so excited to continue our expansion in order to offer our services to more communities around the region.”

Led by Kaiser Permanente care teams, the CareClinics are open to both Kaiser Permanente members and nonmembers, ages 2 and older. Members’ diagnoses and treatment plans are included in their secure electronic health record and shared with their care teams, providing a more coordinated care experience, the companies noted.

“Patients come to our CareClinics for quality and convenient care,” stated Kaiser Permanente clinician and CareClinic chief Michael Erickson. “We’ve proven that CareClinics live up to the promise of quickly diagnosing and treating common ailments. We get you in, taken care of and on your way for an affordable price.”

Group Health Cooperative, Bartell Drugs’ previous clinic partner, was acquired by Kaiser Permanente effective Feb. 1. Kaiser Permanente and Bartell Drugs now operate 11 CareClinics. Besides Des Moine, the other retail clinic locations include Alderwood, Ballard, Bellevue Village, Crossroads, Fairwood, Greenwood, Rainier, Sammamish, University Village and West Seattle.

Overall, Bartell Drugs operates 65 drug stores in Washington’s King, Snohomish and Pierce counties.
