National Association of Specialty Pharmacy Inaugural Event Held

TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — The National Association of Specialty Pharmacy™ (NASP™) held its inaugural event on October 3rd at the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) Educational Conference in Cincinnati. The organization also announced that Michael A. Nameth, RPh, MBA, will serve as the organization’s Interim Executive Director.

"Specialty pharmacy is the fastest growing segment in pharmacy, but we do not have an organization committed to creating a strong, unified voice for all specialty stakeholders," Gary M. Cohen, BSPharm, RPh, NASP Founder said. "Under Nameth’s leadership, NASP will fill this void in the industry and serve as a valuable source of education, professional development and networking opportunities."

NASP is a not-for-profit organization representing specialty pharmacy professionals in all practice settings. The new membership association intersects with all pharmacy associations and practice sites to advance the profession, improve patient care and outcomes and provide education and professional development opportunities.

Michael Baldzicki, CRCM, Vice President of Payer Relations and Contracting of Axelacare Health Solutions said, "With over 17 years dealing with specialty pharmacy, now is perfect time for the creation of an Association focused primarily on specialty pharmacy. This kind of ‘guidance’ is vastly needed in the industry due to the increasing amount of specialty products in the pipeline."

"Specialty pharmacy requires a deeper level of knowledge and skill and I am honored to partner with key leaders in the industry to launch an association dedicated to this growing sector of our industry," Nameth said. "NASP will provide a unique forum for practitioners to collaborate and network to advance the profession and improve the lives of our patients." The new association will also coordinate the rollout of the Certified Specialty Pharmacist™ (CSP™) credential.

Nameth is an accomplished, senior level healthcare business leader with more than 25 years of experience in several key areas of healthcare including: Managed Care (Health Plans); PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Management); and Specialty Pharmacy industries.

Cohen is a healthcare business executive with over 30 years of experience in pharmacy and pharmacy related organizations including: Retail and Chain Pharmacy Management, Healthcare Marketing, Healthcare Publishing, Pharmacy Continuing Education and Certification Boards. He currently holds the position of Interim Executive Director of the Specialty Pharmacy Certification Board
