PALM BEACH, Fla. — The National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation has named executives from Rite Aid Corp., GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer Inc. to its board of directors for the 2012-13 term.

The NACDS Foundation said Susan Henderson, senior vice president and chief communications officer at Rite Aid; Joseph Kucharski, vice president for channel development and sales at GlaxoSmithKline; and David Moules, vice president of corporate government customers at Pfizer were elected to its board Tuesday at the NACDS Annual Meeting in Palm Beach, Calif.

NACDS president and CEO Steve Anderson was elected to serve as chairman of the NACDS Foundation board.

"We welcome Susan Henderson, Joseph Kucharski and David Moules to the NACDS Foundation board and look forward to working with them in their new roles," NACDS Foundation president Kathleen Jaeger said in a statement. "The NACDS Foundation board strives to implement the foundation’s vision and mission to advance public health. Composed of leaders from all sectors of community pharmacy — retailers, pharmaceutical companies and consumer product businesses — the board will continue to utilize opportunities in education, research and charitable activities to help people improve their health and quality of life in the coming year."

Besides Jaeger, the foundation’s officers include NACDS executive vice president and chief financial officer R. James Huber as treasurer and NACDS assistant general counsel Nicki Robins as secretary. All officers serve a one-year term.

Also on Tuesday at the Annual Meeting, the NACDS Foundation announced $350,000 in scholarships were awarded through its 2012 Pharmacy Partners Scholarship Program.

The scholarship program provided awards of $1,000 to $20,000 to each pharmacy school’s scholarship fund to assist top pharmacy students working to achieve their professional Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. This year, the foundation provided scholarship aid to each of the nation’s 126 accredited pharmacy schools and colleges.

A group of 29 benefactors, comprised of NACDS chain members and associate members, supported the scholarship program. The six largest scholarship awards were the following:

• $20,000 Apotex Corp. Wayne Roberts Memorial Scholarship to the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy.

• $12,500 Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Inc. Scholarship to the Pacific University School of Pharmacy.

• $10,000 Abbott Pharmaceutical Products Division Scholarship to the University of Colorado School of Pharmacy.

• $10,000 NACDS Foundation Scholarship to the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy.

• $10,000 NACDS Foundation Scholarship to the Rosalind Franklin University College of Pharmacy.

• $10,000 NACDS Foundation Scholarship to the St. John Fisher College Wegmans School of Pharmacy.

"We cannot thank the benefactors enough for their support of the NACDS Foundation Pharmacy Partners Scholarship Program," Jaeger stated. "Their generous contributions for this year’s scholarships further illustrate the unwavering commitment by retail pharmacy and the pharmaceutical industries to advancing patient care and pharmacy education by supporting the next generation of leaders in community pharmacy."
