FREMONT, Calif. — Salutron Inc., a maker of heart rate monitoring devices and biosensing wearables, has introduced a new line of life trackers to its portfolio, starting with the LifeTrak Brite R450.

Salutron said Tuesday that the Brite R450 marks the first-ever wearable life tracker that offers smart notifications, light exposure monitoring, advanced sleep tracking and 24/7 activity tracking.

The new device takes a holistic approach by integrating multiple aspects of health and fitness into a convenient, user-friendly wrist wearable for daily life, the company noted.

The Brite R450 provides precise, 24/7 fitness tracking — including heart rate, sleep, calories burned, steps taken and distance traveled — and comes with a customizable smart notification feature to help users reach their everyday goals for activity and light exposure while staying "connected." The device features on-screen notifications from incoming calls, missed calls, e-mails, texts, instant messaging, news, and calendar reminders, and as well as from favorite apps, including LifeTrak’s app.

Salutron said iOS and Android app Smart notifications allow users to keep in touch, stay in the loop and not miss important information, all via a wearable wristwatch. And with an average battery life of six months, the Brite R450 also doesn’t need to be charged daily or even weekly.

"Most activity and fitness trackers on the market are one-dimensional in that they only offer simple activity monitoring. Yet health and wellness isn’t just about physical activity," stated Salutron chief executive officer Mike Tsai. "Establishing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle also includes aspects of a person’s daily environment, such as the surrounding world and the people you care about. The new Brite R450 is unlike any anything currently on the market because of its combination of features that give users more complete insight into their well-being in order to build a path to better health and life."

The Brite R450 also includes LightTrak, which Salutron called the first-ever built-in monitor that tracks ambient light and blue light exposure simultaneously. Blue light has been cited for its beneficial properties for enhancing mood, boosting energy and improving sleep. The Brite R450 will alert users if they’re not getting enough blue light in the morning or too much before bedtime. This new ambient light management feature can also help users recover from jet lag by delivering the optimal recommendation for light exposure based on your time zone, according to the company.

In addition, the Brite R450 takes the innovative SleepTrak feature — also found in all of LifeTrak’s C-series activity trackers — to the next level with the launch of SleepTrak 2.0. The new feature includes a gentle vibrating alarm and Intelligent Wake Up feature, which helps the wearer wake up refreshed by determining his or her optimal wake time based on real-time sleep quality. Both LightTrak and SleepTrak 2.0 features work together to enable users to sleep better.

The Brite R450, priced at $129.99, is slated to become available at retailers starting Oct. 15, Salutron said.
