The retailer hosted an outdoor party at Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square on October 7 and invited people to step inside a life-size Shoppers Optimum confetti globe for a chance to win prizes, including an all-inclusive vacation for two to Cuba, Mexico, Jamaica or the Dominican Republic, valued at $4,500.
The daylong Toronto event touched off a nationwide promotion that ran through October 24 and featured in-store giveaways and contests to win products, points and prizes, including 15 luxury vacations from Sunwing and Royalton Luxury Resorts.
“Shoppers Optimum is uniquely Canadian and one of the most loved loyalty programs in the country,” remarked Shelagh Stoneham, senior vice president of marketing at SDM. “We are celebrating 15 outstanding years by offering even more to our customers in terms of offers and prizes.”
Among the prizes that were being offered were prepaid gift cards from MasterCard and SDM. Fifteen individuals won prizes of 500,000 Shoppers Optimum points. Shoppers earned eligibility for the prizes through an online game as well as through in-store offers on selected products.
Earlier this year, SDM launched “My Optimum. My Rewards,” a new personalized digital experience. The new digital platform includes an enhanced SDM app along with a digital Optimum card, making it easier for customers to receive additional rewards on products they purchase. The platform delivers weekly load-to-card offers that are tailored to members’ shopping preferences, including a personalized flyer picking the relevant promotions for each customer, the company said.
Loyalty cardholders also received offers allowing them to earn rewards for everyday purchases and receive special offers on new items, noted SDM, which is Canada’s largest retail pharmacy chain, with 1,258 Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix outlets. SDM also licenses or owns 51 medical clinic pharmacies operating as Shoppers Simply Pharmacy (Pharmaprix Simplement Santé in Quebec).
