SAN DIEGO — Cosmederm Bioscience Inc.’s TriCalm Anti-Itch Hydrogel has been granted the National Eczema Association (NEA) Seal of Acceptance.

The specialty pharmaceutical company said the seal recognizes TriCalm as a product appropriate for the care of itching related to eczema or sensitive skin.

An over-the-counter topical hydrogel, TriCalm is steroid-free and provides fast, temporary relief of minor skin irritations, such as from eczema as well as insect bites; athlete’s foot; poison ivy, poison oak or poison sumac; and rashes due to soaps, detergents, cosmetics or jewelry.

According to Cosmederm Bioscience, TriCalm provides relief to eczema sufferers without the potential side effects of steroid-based anti-itch creams, such as skin atrophy or thinning, noticeable discoloration, stretch marks and allergic reactions.

An estimated 30 million-plus Americans suffer from eczema, a term for a group of medical conditions that cause the skin to become inflamed or irritated.

"The National Eczema Association established the NEA Seal of Acceptance program as a service to individuals and the corporate community and to encourage/recognize product innovations that provide benefits and improve the quality of life for people with eczema and sensitive skin," stated NEA chief executive officer Julie Block. "The NEA Seal of Acceptance helps individuals recognize products that are suitable for the care of eczema or sensitive skin."

TriCalm is available in stores and online at Walmart, Walgreens, CVS/pharmacy, Meijer, Giant, Stop & Shop, Martin’s, Wegmans, ShopRite and Price Rite.
