DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreen Co. is expanding its relationship with Inovalon Inc. to implement the technology company’s patient assessment software and platform to support improvements in care, quality and risk score accuracy programs across more than 400 of the retailer’s Healthcare Clinics.

Use of the software, called Electronic Patient Assessment Solution Suite (ePASS), at the clinics creates a unique offering within the health plan and retail clinic industry, according to Walgreens. Inovalon’s analysis of more than 8.3 billion medical events brings granular insights to Healthcare Clinic programs, the retailer says.

The software guides the clinics’ practitioners during examinations — leading them to ask certain questions or seek particular lab tests related to patients’ histories. Inovalon’s analytics comb through data from more than 100 million patients and use predictive algorithms to suggest diagnoses.

“By integrating data analytics, we can gain even deeper insights to help improve patient care and, ultimately, outcomes,” said Heather Helle, divisional vice president of Healthcare Clinic. “We continue to expand the scope of services, capabilities and footprint at Healthcare Clinics. These types of innovative solutions enable our nurse practitioners and physician assistants to play an increasingly important role as part of a patient’s care team.”

Delivering Inovalon’s advanced analytics to the clinics’ nurse practitioners and physician assistants, along with their laboratory and immunization resources, serves health plans, ACOs and integrated care delivery organizations seeking to improve quality outcomes and boost risk score accuracy, the technology company says.

Inovalon’s ePASS system delivers a patient assessment tool with individualized predictive analytics to the point of care, supporting advanced insight and efficient resolution of gaps in quality, care, patient assessment, documentation and risk score accuracy.

The risk score models of Medicare Advantage, Commercial Health Insurance Exchange and state-managed Medicaid are each supported within the ePASS system.
