Plans call for Diab to start at Brookdale, a Nashville, Tenn.-based operator of senior living communities across the country, on Nov. 16.

Brookdale announced the appointment of Diab as COO late Monday as part of changes to its executive leadership team.

Diab has served as president of health and wellness of Walmart’s U.S. division since April 2014, when he replaced Dr. John Agwunobi in the role.

In that post, Diab was responsible for the retailer’s full-service health and wellness offerings, including its pharmacies, vision centers and primary care clinics. Before he assumed that role, Diab was president of the Walmart U.S. Midwest division.

Diab began his career as a pharmacy manager at American Stores, parent of Jewel-Osco and Sav-on Drugs. He served in regional and divisional operations roles at CVS Caremark Corp. and Rite Aid Corp. before joining Walmart in 2009 as director of operations.

Walmart has not yet announced a replacement for Diab. The company is the nation’s third-largest pharmacy retailer, with more than 5,100 pharmacies and estimated pharmacy sales of nearly $24 billion.
